Windtunnel Design & Construction – part 6: support frame
The support frame for the wind tunnel is built from 80mmx80mm square tubes.
-the front part of the tunnel (bellmouth, settling chamber, contraction duct) is mounted on wheels on top of 2 large U-beams. These form a rail system for the settling chamber boxes.
-the frame supporting the fan is insulated from the rest of the structure with rubber pads and a flexible coupling to avoid passing vibrations into the steel wind tunnel.
-the test section frames are wheeled, the other frames stand on adjustable support pads.
